This unpretentious pizzeria in a quiet street of Pempelfort could easily go unnoticed, yet the rumor runs that Pizzeria Romantica is possibly the address where you find the best pizza in Düsseldorf!

Even if pizza joints are everywhere in the city, only a few of these places cut across the crowd to offer an authentic pizza. And whenever you talk about pizza, Pizzeria Romantica gets repeatedly recommended by those who have been here long enough to know about this gem!

Secure a table

It can be hard to resist a pizza craving when it hits. If it happens during the weekend and Pizzeria Romantica comes to mind, call them immediately to secure a table. Unsurprisingly, the place is packed as soon as the doors fling open at 6 PM, after all, we are talking about one of Düsseldorf’s most popular eating-out options.

Otherwise, during weekdays, the place is open for lunch and dinner and you can often easily find a table without a reservation.

As soon as you enter the place, you are greeted by a wonderful sight, Pizzaiolos actively tossing and turning their doughs, add to it a team of busy waiters sending their orders in beautiful Italian, you have yourself quite the authentic experience! If not for the two hungry toddlers who accompanied me on my pizza quest, I would not have minded waiting longer just to witness the preparation of the reputed best pizza in Düsseldorf.

Fast and Friendly Service

The staff is fast in getting you the menu and taking your order, without being hasty or pushy. There is no useless hovering around your table to make sure your napkin is well aligned, you can feel that the priority is to get everyone their pizzas straight from the oven piping hot!

It won’t be a hard choosing your pizza, the menu has nothing extraordinary at first sight. The traditional topping combinations are present, with the usual salami, shrimps, and tuna. For once vegetarians would not be disappointed in having less choice, the menu boasts more vegetable toppings than meaty ones.

Art of Simplicity

To understand why there is so much hype around Pizzeria Romantica, you have to wait until your pizza lands on your table. It is simply massive, it does not even fit into the plate correctly, nor is it perfectly round.

The pizza is thin with a crispy crunch on the outside, the center is moist from a tangy and sweet tomato sauce (which must have been cooked for hours before getting spooned on this magnificent flatbread). Contrast this bright red sauce with the white of the mozzarella and finally a subtle hint of oregano, you have yourself the Italian flag.

What is remarkable here is how everything tastes fresh, especially the dollops of mozzarella which unlike the fast-food style pizzas, is creamy and soft. What I particularly enjoyed is how distinctly I could taste the flavor of each ingredient.

The secret of Italian cuisine is often referred to as the use of fewer ingredients but of exceptional quality, always! This is perfectly symbolized at Pizzeria Romantica, and to truly experience this, just choose a classic Margherita pizza and be amazed at how simple and delicious it can be!

No matter how huge the pizza is, you won’t feel stuffed as it is both light in the dough and the toppings. I have to admit, I had to help to finish up everything from my two pizza-loving daughters plates, one of whom will not settle on any other pizza than Pizzeria Romantica since we have been there.

Authentic and Popularly Priced

My astonishment did not stop with the fresh and inviting pizza though, once I got the bill I realized that they are possibly not just the best pizza in town but also the most decently priced. Except for one, none of their pizzas cost more than 10 Euro!
