There are so many wonderful places to be and things to do in Düsseldorf, it’s hard to see it all, especially if you’re only here for a short time. However, if you have the chance, these 20 extremely “Instagrammable” shots may inspire you to get out and explore some more. Düsseldorf is filled with beautiful little gems and who’s kidding, most of us decide to do things for the ‘gram anyway! I’m often a culprit, but it allows me to get out and explore new places I’d never thought to wander through before.

Happy Instagramming! ?
Get out and explore!

1 – K21 – in orbit installation

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGWAAY9oDyS/

The in orbit art installation is a popular exhibition at the K21 Kunstsammlung in Düsseldorf. It hangs more than 25 meters above the ground and is made of a multi-layered steel mesh, so you can walk through different levels while peering down at the people below.

2 – Kiefernstrasse Street Art

https://www.instagram.com/p/BUypGGXF8BC/

Kiefernstrasse is an entire street located in Flingern-Süd filled with incredible art and graffiti. Previously known as a squatters’ corner in the 1980s, this remarkable street has now turned into an artsy and alternative space for locals to express themselves and explore.

3 – The Sheep along the Rheinwiesen

https://www.instagram.com/p/BpEZhriHMKB/

These big guys are roaming the Rhinewiesen all year long, but you’ll have to find them before you can take your candid Instagram shot. They are herded back and forth along the large stretch of grass on the Rhinewiesen to keep the flora trimmed and beautiful.

4 – The “Rivertime” Wall by the Rhine Stairs

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bi15m-jhP5c/

In the center of all the action in the Altstadt is the Rhinetreppe (stairs), this is also where you will find the beautiful “Rivertime” wall made up of thousands of tiny colorful ceramic tiles created by artist Hermann-Josef Kuhna.

5 – The “Hornet” Wall – Behind K20

https://www.instagram.com/p/BUoI-bCl7YH/

Similarly to the colorful “Rivertime” wall along the Rhine stairs, is the colorful tiled mosaic the “Hornet” which was designed by an American artist, Sarah Morris. This masterpiece is located behind the K20 Kunstsammlung in Grabbeplatz.

6 – The Living Bridge “Shot” in the Media Harbour

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCNkzLcoDw4/

This one shouldn’t come as a surprise, the Living Bridge in the Media Harbour is always filled with Instagram fanatics and models taking shots looking out at the Rhine Tower and the Frank O’ Gehry Zollhof buildings.

7 – The Königsallee Canal

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqm7vY-nBia/

Located in between the big brand shops along the Königsallee is this beautiful canal. Regardless of sunlight or moonshine, winter or summer, the canal always offers a great candid Instagram shot for your feed.

8 – Schloss Benrath

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bj7mDEPB96m/

Schloss Benrath (also known as the Pink Castle to many) is a popular place for wedding photographers to do their photoshoots. Why? Well, it’s romantic, it’s charming and c’mon… it’s a pink castle, do we need to explain any further? Not to mention the grounds and gardens of Schloss Benrath in the summer are beautiful.

9 – Kö-Bogen

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCqk2YgID4p/

This architecturally pleasing building is the Kö-Bogen, designed by famous architect Daniel Libeskind. The sharp diagonal cuts of the building, along with the hanging built-in gardens and the mix between the glass and white stone is what makes this building such a unique place for an Instagram shot.

10 – The Angel Wings

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn8LDYbnGY_/

While I haven’t been able to find any information online about the mysterious street artist who painted these colorful angel wings on the side of a building along Bäckerstraße near the Rhine promenade, they certainly do make for a great Instagram shot!

If you have any information about the artist that we can include in this post, let us know!

11 – Langenberger Street

https://www.instagram.com/p/BFcPdqioD32/

Langenberger Straße is surprisingly still a big secret to many of the locals in town, yet one of my favorite places to visit. There is a very cool snack bar along Langenberger Straße called the Liverpooler Stehgrill where retiree, Wolfgang Dauer, has built his own little paradise out of scrap metal and unique artifacts. To some, it may look like a junkyard, to others it may be a hidden gem between the chic streets of Düsseldorf.

12 – Schloss Eller

https://www.instagram.com/p/BhmD6R_hslG/

Schloss Eller is a beautiful little castle surrounded by a moat and some stunning nature. The best time to visit for photography is in the spring when all the flowers are in bloom. The Schloss Eller park is gorgeous and makes for a wonderful Sunday stroll with the family as well.

13 – Rhineturm

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo2PsWZnrZS/

Surprised? The Rhine Tower is definitely one of the most photographed places in the whole of Düsseldorf. It’s prominent, it’s cool and it makes for a great Instagram photo.

14 – The Sunflower Fields in Himmelgeist

https://www.instagram.com/p/BWva_D1l99Y/

Another little secret spot that I love to visit in the spring and summer is the sunflower fields in Himmelgeist. They are located just across the street from Aldi. It is a self-picking field of flowers. If you’d like to take some home, you can grab a knife from the front box, chop the ones you want and put your money in the box at the front gate (price per flower is located on a sign when you enter).

15 – The EKŌ-Haus Cherry Blossoms

https://www.instagram.com/p/BSMd0CDAQCF/

The cherry blossoms are usually in full bloom when the spring weather starts to roll around (March/April), so you’ll have to make sure you catch them at a good time if you’d like to get this Instagram-worthy shot. They are located on the grounds of the EKŌ-Haus, a Japanese cultural center located between Oberkassel and Lörick.

16 – The Zeitfeld

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bck2EVOFweG/

The Zeitfeld is located at the entrance of the Volksgarten along Auf’m Hennekamp. It is a piece designed by artist Klaus Rinke and made from train station clocks. It’s a pretty neat place to photograph in the winter, in the summer, and at night (as they light up when the sun sets).

17 – The Botanical Gardens

https://www.instagram.com/p/BH6c4XjAeVm/

The Botanical Gardens are located at the Universität Düsseldorf and are free of charge to visit. They offer various tours, exhibitions, and lectures for you to learn more, but is also open to the public to just roam around and enjoy on your own.

18 – The Blue Ribbon

https://www.instagram.com/p/BSse6TMlTr0/

Here’s another spring favorite, the Blue Ribbon (Blaues Band) of crocuses that have bloomed every spring for more than 10 years. Thanks to the volunteers at the Association Pro Düsseldorf, we are able to enjoy a beautiful band of blue/purple crocuses year after year along the Rheinpark, in Kaiserspfalz, and in the Hofgarten.

19 – The Edge of the Rhine

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmXoENXBcR1/

Along the edge of the Rhine (more specifically, next to the popular Fortuna Büdchen) is a perfect spot to sit and watch the sunset while drinking a couple of beers with friends and family. This spot is also the perfect spot for an Instagram selfie while the sun is going down.

20 – The Classic “Düsseldorf” Shot

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bid5zbuFIdz/

There’s nothing more popular than the classic “Düsseldorf shot”. You know what I’m talking about, the Rhine Tower in the background, the Rheinkniebrücke in the middle ground, with people passing by in the foreground or a nice green patch of grass.
