It’s finally happened! Halloween is gaining popularity in Germany, and Düsseldorf has become an amazing place for kids to experience the excitement of trick-or-treating! Whether you’re new to the city or looking for a new spot to take the kids, here are some of the best areas in Düsseldorf for Halloween candy hauls, based on where newer developments are thriving.
I’ve only been trick-or-treating in Himmelgeist and Kaiserswerth (both great options) but this curated list is a combination of all your answers from our Instagram channel. 💛
Finding the best houses for trick-or-treating is going to be up to you, but here are a few tips to make sure you have the best Halloween trick-or-treating experience yet! ⬇️

Tips for a Great Trick-or-Treating Experience
- Go early: Start around 5:30 pm to catch families before it gets too dark. Most families will stay out until around 7:30 pm.
- Check local Facebook groups: Some neighborhoods have Halloween groups where families can share which homes are participating.
- Bring a flashlight: Some newer areas are still developing and it might get dark quickly.
- Don’t set your expectations too high: If you’re coming from a country where Halloween is big, please don’t forget that Halloween is still a relatively new concept for many Germans. That also means that decorations and experiences may not be the same as what you’re used to.
Now, here’s the best places to trick-or-treat around Düsseldorf ⬇️
1️⃣ Pastor-Bröhl-Straße – Kaiserswerth
It’s only natural that Kaiserswerth is the place to be for trick-or-treating! Many North Americans live here due to the proximity to the international school (which is in Kaiserswerth).
2️⃣ Am Scheitenweg – Himmelgeist
Feel free to start your journey behind the ALDI in Himmelgeist (this is where the Neubau area begins). If you make your way toward Alte Stadtgrenze and Gärtnereiweg, you’ll find tons of houses participating in the Halloween festivities.
3️⃣ Erna-Eckstein-Straße – Bilk
This new build area is centrally located and full of children, so you’ll be sure to find quite a number of other trick-or-treaters here too (my friends live here and can confirm 😉).
4️⃣ Otto-Hahn-Straße – Wersten
The Otto-Hahn-Straße and the entire Siedlung are some of the best places to go for family-friendly activities (summer garage sales, playgrounds, Kitas, etc.) There’s no doubt that Halloween is sure to be a blast here too.
5️⃣ Nordstrasse – Pempelfort
Have you ever been trick-or-treating shop-to-shop instead of house-to-house? Apparently, this is what the kids living around Nordstrasse do! I think this location is on my Halloween bucket list for next year! The Quartier Central complex and surrounding streets are newer residential areas too which are filled with young families and expats who are embracing Halloween traditions.
6️⃣ Living Circle – Grafenberg
On Luise-Rainer-Straße in Grafenberg, you’ll find the Living Circle apartment complex which is also a great option for trick-or-treating!
7️⃣ Reizenstein Kaserne – Mörsenbroich
According to our fellow community members, this is quite the place to be for trick-or-treating as well. The locals call it the “Reizenstein Kaserne”, but the street names specifically are Am Nussbaum, Zur alten Kaserne, Zur Weide, and many more! They’re all part of the same complex, so you should be able to find your way around easily.
8️⃣ Birkenhof – Bilk (Uni)
If you live around the University area, you’ll likely want to check out Birkenhof, a small living complex where the homes are closely situated so your kiddos aren’t too exhausted or overstimulated by the end of the night. If you’re in this area though, you can also check out Erna-Eckstein (#3 on this list) which is closeby too!
As your answers come through, I will continue to update this blog post. 💛
Until then… feeling curious?
These are the new build areas that the web suggests checking out (although I cannot vouch for these locations as I’ve not visited them myself). ⬇️
- Derendorf – Around the Franklin Bridge and Mercedesstraße
- Oberkassel – Around Belsenplatz and Along Luegallee
- Benrath – Near Schlosspark Benrath
- Ludenberg – Near Am Grafenberger Wald
- Reisholz – Near Düsseldorfer Landstraße
Düsseldorf’s newer neighborhoods are breathing new life into Halloween, and we’re thrilled to see families getting into the spooky spirit. Whether you’re new to Düsseldorf or just looking to switch up your Halloween plans, these areas are sure to delight both kids and adults.
