Sport im Park Düsseldorf

What is Sport im Park?

Sport im Park is a community-driven program designed to promote physical activity and well-being among people of all ages and fitness levels. From spring to autumn, the city transforms its parks into open-air gyms, offering a wide range of free exercise classes which are hosted by volunteers who often have their own sports clubs or classes too.

These sessions are led by professional trainers and are suitable for beginners and fitness enthusiasts alike.

Can anyone participate? What if I’m just visiting?

Yes! Taking part in a Sport im Park class is completely free and requires absolutely no registration. That means even if you’re just here in Düsseldorf for the day or you’re on your way home from work and spot a class in the nearby park, come join them!

Sport im Park is an inclusive way to bring the entire community together and is for…

💛 Young or old
💛 Local or tourist
💛 Athletic or totally out of shape

How can I sign up?

Getting started with Sport im Park is easy. There’s no need to register in advance or pay any fees. Simply check the schedule online, find a class that interests you, and show up at the designated park.

Be sure to arrive a few minutes early to meet the instructor and get settled in.

What do I need to bring/prepare?

To make the most of your Sport im Park experience, make sure to consider the following tips:

Stay Hydrated: Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, especially during the warmer months.

Bring a Mat: A towel, a yoga mat, a sports pad, anything will do! You don’t need one, but it might make your workout a little more comfortable.

Dress Comfortably: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and suitable footwear for the class (sneakers, barefoot, whatever floats your boat)

Bring a Friend: Sharing the experience with a friend can make it even more fun and even more motivating for you!

Arrive Early: Arriving a bit early gives you time to find the group, introduce yourself to the instructor, and get ready for the session.

NOTE: You’re not the only one who is going to love Sport im Park! This is an open community event which means while you may have a small group of other community members attending during a cloudy day, some of the more central locations on a sunny day can bring in crowds in the hundreds! Make sure to come early if you want to get a good spot! 🕥

👋 Hey, I’m Jenna!

The voice behind Life in Düsseldorf

I’m a German Canadian who moved to Düsseldorf over a decade ago, and like many of you, I had a million questions when I arrived. From trying to figure out how health insurance works in Germany to wondering where the best bakery is (spoiler: it’s Bülle 🍞), I’ve been through it all.

So I created Life in Düsseldorf to help make your transition smoother — whether you’re moving to Germany, already living here, or just curious about life abroad. My mission? To make you feel a little less overwhelmed and a lot more at home.
