It’s officially summertime and the temperatures are rising! That means it’s time to find a cool spot to beat the heat. Take a gander through the list below of swimming pools and lakes around Düsseldorf that will definitely cool you down this summer!

Lakes around Düsseldorf
There are a few lakes around Düsseldorf that are swimmable and definitely worth checking out! You’ll need to pay an entrance fee, but it’s often well worth the price!
Unterbacher See
This lake is the closest to Düsseldorf and can be reached by bus. There are two beaches available, the Nordstrand and the Südstrand, which is subdivided into a nude beach and a regular beach. Bus stop: Strandbad Nord for the northern beach or Strandbad Süd for the southern beach.
Kaarster See
A short drive away is the Kaarster See which can be reached with the S28. There are also two beaches available. S-Bahn stop: Kaarster See.
Waterski Lake Langenfeld
This lake is not only refreshing but also a fun way to spend the day waterskiing or wakeboarding. The lake can be reached with the S6. S-Bahn stop: Langenfeld-Berghausen.
There are a number of lakes around Düsseldorf worth visiting, but only a few of them are actually swimmable. If you don’t mind not jumping in for a dip and would prefer to simply lay back and suntan or enjoy some drinks and snacks with your friends and family, there are a few more worth visiting:
- Silbersee in Ratingen
- Blauersee in Ratingen
- Grünersee in the Erholungspark Volkardey in Ratingen
- Elbsee in Unterbach (right next to Unterbacher See)
Outdoor Swimming Pools in Düsseldorf
There are actually 10 different swimming pools in Düsseldorf that you can visit, which means you’ll always have more than enough opportunity to keep cool this summer! However, there are a number of pools that are only open to sport swimmers or have particular hours that are only open for athletics or private classes. Make sure you check the hours ahead of time!

Splash Pads in Düsseldorf
If you have little ones who enjoy a day of fun in the sun at the park, 7 different splash pads in Düsseldorf are all a ton of fun!
- Alter Bilker Friedhof in Bilk
- Schlosspark in Eller
- Emmastrasse in the Volksgarten
- Tannenhofweg in Vennhausen
- Südpark next to the pond (Deichsee)
- Grünerstrasse at Zoopark
- Auf’m Rott in Wersten
Indoor swimming pools to consider in the winter months
The remaining 6 pools you can still check out as well, but are mostly or completely indoors – great as a winter option too!
- Familienbad Niederheid (a great indoor pool for the whole family)
- Gartenhallenbad Unterrath (a great indoor pool for the whole family)
- Hallenbad Oberkassel/Heerdt (a brand new indoor swimming facility that will likely open in 2021)
- Schwimm’ in Bilk (mostly used as a sport and swim course facility)
- Hallenbad Eller (mostly used as a sport and swim course facility)
- Münster-Therme (more spa-like facilities – not recommended for children)
