Get ready to celebrate a new and delicious addition to Düsseldorf’s ever-growing international culinary scene! Hala Empanada has just opened its doors at Münsterstrasse 7 (at the end of Nordstrasse and right next to Mercado Tropical) and is bringing us all a delightful taste of Argentina with a unique German twist.

Hala Empanada isn’t just “another empanada place” (not that we have many of those in the city anyway) – it’s the heartwarming story of four young entrepreneurs who turned their college dream into a booming reality. 🥰

And their story is totally worth a read!

From Dorm Room to Düsseldorf’s Dining Scene

⏱️ The journey of Hala Empanada is one you’re going to want to hear! It all started when the owner, Finn, spent a year in Argentina and as one would, he fell head over heels for the rich, flavorful cuisine.

🇦🇷 After Finn returned to Düsseldorf, he began recreating the empanadas he craved from back in Argentina. His friends and his brother joined in and turned their student dormitory into their own empanada factory. With much praise from their family and friends, they then realized they had something willing to share and moved to KIT Cafe to kick things off.

🔮 Three years later, their dream of creating a place where everyone in Düsseldorf can enjoy Argentinian cuisine has now become a reality – and believe me, you do not want to miss it!

A Fusion of Flavors and Traditions

Hala Empanada isn’t just about bringing you the traditional Argentinian flavor Finn fell in love with in Argentina; it’s a fusion of German culinary traditions and innovative twists from his own talents. As shown perfectly in their name-sake dish, Hala Empanada, which features baked sweet potato mixed with raw vegetables in a delicious peanut-soy marinade (definitely not Argentinian, but absolutely worth a try)!

— And even with their sauces, from a delicious garlic mayo (Jenna’s fav) or the classic Argentinian chimichurri (with the spice level toned down for our international palates).

Whether you’re a meat lover, vegan, or gluten-free, there’s something at Hala Empanada for everyone!

For those with a sweet tooth (which I definitely have), you have to try the Pistachio or classic Dulce de Leches Alfajores – they literally melt in your mouth, and perfectly complement the savory empanadas perfectly.

Fresh, Quality Ingredients That Are Good for The Planet

What sets the Hala Empanada team apart from many other street food scene owners in Düsseldorf is their passion and commitment to quality. They strive to use the best and most sustainable ingredients available locally, including organic meat, a range of organic (bio) products, and regional produce.

They use a special shock-freezing method to ensure they taste delicious when unthawed and cooked and the best part? This also allows them to ship their empanadas far beyond just Düsseldorf.

They’re also deeply committed to sustainability and have partnered up with Vytal to implement an efficient reusable system, significantly reducing their packaging waste.

But it’s more than just empanadas

While their homemade empanadas are the main attraction, you have to try their homemade iced tea – it’s game-changing. Not to mention, they also feature their high-end coffee machine right at the front because their coffee apparently really is that good.
