  • 15+ of the Best [Expat Recommended] English Speaking Gynecologists in Düsseldorf

It’s no secret, that all of us ladies are going to need a “Frauenarzt” or gynecologist at some point during our time in Düsseldorf. Thankfully there are many expats who have already visited many different doctors to find their favorite ones and have then shared them with us.

After carefully skimming through many expat forums and Facebook groups, and then calling practices myself, I’ve put together a roundup list of some of the best English-speaking “Frauenärzte” and Gynecologists in the city.

For your convenience, I’ve also listed them by district so that you can find one close to home!

NOTE: If you need immediate emergency care, please made sure to head straight to one of the local hospitals.

Here are a few things you’re going to have to do/know before going to a gynecologist appointment:

  1. Make sure you have insurance – if you still need health insurance, you can check out our list on the best options for expats – Ottonova being one of the best for short-term expats and TK being one of the public insurance favourites.
  2. Make sure you’ve booked an appointment – not all clinics can accept walk-in patients, make sure you call ahead of time!
  3. Be prepared to pay – you might have to pay a fee if you’ve recently switched gynecologists – this is often the case if you switch in the middle of a calendar quarter.

If you’re in need of medication, you can also purchase a lot of “over the counter” meds online from extremely reputable pharmacies (at a much cheaper price).

Have more questions?

Planning on having a baby?

  • You will also need to select which birthing center in Düsseldorf you would like to register at (if the baby comes too soon and you haven’t registered yet, do not worry! You can still head to any hospital that is close by, it just might take a bit longer to fill out the forms.
  • Booking a birth preparation course can also be very helpful! Did you know we have some courses hosted in English in Düsseldorf too?!
  • If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, we have an introductory guide to having a baby here in Düsseldorf (written by an English speaking doula)
  • DON’T FORGET there is a long checklist of paperwork and documents you will need to register the birth of your new baby – make sure you have these papers prepared well ahead of time!

If you don’t think you need to rely on expat recommendations to find your gynecologist, or perhaps you’re looking for one on the outskirts of Düsseldorf, there is a great website where you’ll be able to find English speaking doctors in a list format for yourself.

Visit www.frauenaerzte.de and type “Englisch” in the search box (in German, otherwise, no results will come up).

👋 Hey, I’m Jenna!

The voice behind Life in Düsseldorf

I’m a German Canadian who moved to Düsseldorf over a decade ago, and like many of you, I had a million questions when I arrived. From trying to figure out how health insurance works in Germany to wondering where the best bakery is (spoiler: it’s Bülle 🍞), I’ve been through it all.

So I created Life in Düsseldorf to help make your transition smoother — whether you’re moving to Germany, already living here, or just curious about life abroad. My mission? To make you feel a little less overwhelmed and a lot more at home.
