Parookaville

This is, by far, one of the most amazing electronic music events in Europe, and it’s less than an hour away from Düsseldorf. Since its inception in 2015, Parookaville has become a global sensation, attracting around 225,000 visitors from over 40 different countries every year. This event offers various camping options so you can fully immerse yourself in the experience. Parookaville is a multi-electronic-genre festival, and over the 3 (or 4 or 5 if you’re camping) festival days, visitors can choose from more than 10 stunning stages.

Pollerwiesen

Techno lovers, rise up. If you’re into dark clothing, indoor sunglasses, and strong, pumping beats, this is your event. Pollerwiesen is both a festival in Dortmund and a series of open-air parties in Jugendpark, Cologne. It started as an illegal rave in the woods around Cologne 30 years ago and has grown to be one of the most beloved events in the area.

Close

This one is for all the hard techno fans out there – get your black fetish gear ready. A new and exciting festival has arrived in our region, proving that hard techno is the voice of the new generation. As the hard techno scene continues to attract countless new fans worldwide, it was time for a major event to come to our area. Close Festival is a young event that aims to create the ultimate rave experience, just 40 minutes away from us, in the magnificent Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen. The festival features multiple stages, world-renowned artists, spacious areas, chill-out zones, and, of course, long hours of dancing. Close Festival takes place a few times a year, so follow them for the exact dates.

Nibirii

Another newcomer in the festival scene that has quickly won the hearts of local ravers is the Nibirii Festival in Düren. Within just a few editions, it has become one of the only large-scale events in the area that features Drum and Bass, Goa, techno, and Psytrance all in one place. Apart from techno, these genres aren’t very popular in Germany, so this event represents a significant breakthrough in the region’s electronic music variety. If you’re a true warrior, you may opt for the camping option, but make sure to pack your strongest earplugs.

Ruhr in Love

A cherished local day festival held during the summer at Olga-Park in Oberhausen, just 40 minutes from Düsseldorf. This event remains a hidden gem, drawing thousands of ravers to dance across over 10 different stages. The festival partners with major local event organizers like Acid Wars and Affenkäfig, ensuring exceptional stage hosting. Here, you’ll discover a variety of electronic music genres, though techno clearly takes center stage.

Docklands

A day and night house and techno festival held in the charming city of Münster. During the day, attendees can revel in multiple stages hosting incredible DJs from Germany and around the world. What sets this event apart is that after the day party ends, attendees have access to numerous clubs collaborating with the festival, extending the party into the early morning hours. Given Münster’s status as a student city, expect a youthful, vibrant, and lively crowd.

Mayday

Started as a techno and house festival in Berlin in 1991, it swiftly made its way west and became one of NRW’s most celebrated electronic music events. While techno and house are the main genres in most years, there are occasional shifts to mainstream styles. In 2019, Tiesto and Lost Frequencies performed alongside techno legends like Pan-Pot and Sam Paganini. With years of experience, the event has established itself with top-notch production values and meticulous attention to detail. Each year, it attracts no less than 15,000 visitors who gather to enjoy spectacular laser shows and unique performances.
This event boasts one of the most dedicated fan bases a festival could hope for, with ravers returning year after year for over three decades now.

Panama Open Air

Panama Open Air is one of the youngest but most significant players in the festival industry in our region. It started as an underground event and has transformed into a glamorous festival, hosting some of the biggest names in the music industry. While the festival focuses mainly on electronic music, it also features a mix of different genres such as hip-hop, rap, and pop. Panama Open Air is a great place to enjoy amazing music and relax at the same time. Located in the scenic Rheinaue Park in Bonn, it’s conveniently accessible via public transportation from Düsseldorf.

Syndicate

Syndicate is among the region’s largest and most significant harder styles events. Attendees consider it a cornerstone of the local calendar, reflected in the energetic vibe of the crowd. This isn’t a festival for relaxation, so ensure you’re well-rested beforehand. Organized by I-Motion, the same team behind Mayday, Ruhr in Love, and other major German festivals, Syndicate annually hosts top DJs in its genres. It’s a must-visit for hardstyle lovers from across Europe and even around the world.

Verknipt

Established in 2012 in the Netherlands, Verknipt has spent over a decade cultivating its reputation in the dance music industry. Initially focusing on techno and house music, Verknipt later evolved into a trailblazer in the hard techno events space. By embracing a new sound and employing an exceptional social media strategy, Verknipt swiftly ascended to the forefront of one of the industry’s fastest-growing genres. This incredible festival made its debut in NRW in 2023 with a breathtaking edition at the magnificent Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen, promising to return for many years to come.

Stone Techno

The Stone Techno Festival is likely the most underground techno festival in our area. Described as “the biggest multidisciplinary project with a musical, cultural, political, scientific, and social approach,” it takes place at the breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein in Essen. Stages are set amidst the remnants of what was once a bustling coal mine in the heart of the Ruhrgebiet. Today, instead of pollution and hard labor, beautiful techno sounds reverberate among the iron structures, inviting music and art lovers from all around to celebrate and indulge in the moment. This is truly a one-of-a-kind festival.
