I know I’m certainly not the only one desperately looking for child-friendly cafés in Düsseldorf (and where the waiters won’t groan about me dragging the stroller behind me and up the stairs). The struggle is real!

So, thanks to my little one, I’ve spent the last couple of months on a hunt for the best cafés in the city that are baby-friendly and child-friendly, some of which also offer a play area for babies and young kids… rather than searching for a babysitter haha. Of course, there are always new cafés popping up every year, so if you think one is missing, don’t be afraid to let us know!

Note: older cafés that were once mentioned here like Café Barnets, Wondromeda, Nordpark Café, and Café Dulce have since closed permanently.

Here are 15+ of the best child-friendly cafés in Düsseldorf

BabyBee-Spielraum

BabyBee-Spielraum is a montessori-inspired indoor playground for children ages 0-5 located in Pempelfort. They promote their use of eco-friendly toys and offer a variety of bilingual courses. You have the option to bring your own food or purchase some snacks and delicious waffles or drinks from their own café.

Montessori Family Center

The Montessori Family Center opened their doors in March 2024 and is the cities first Montessori family center. Their space is intended for children ages 0-6 (under the supervision of an adult) and they have four different design areas for the kids to play and learn: a movement room, workroom, lovery room and a parents’ lounge.

Where? Fürstenwall 228, 40215 Düsseldorf-Bilk

ZweisamZeit – permanently closed

This small space located along Lorettostrasse in Unterbilk is an oasis for younger children and parents who would like to take part in some interactive courses like pekip. They also have opening slots for their Kindercafé too if you’d like to just go and check it out before booking a course.

Where? Lorettostraße 41, 40219 Düsseldorf-Unterbilk

Little Bunny

Little Bunny is a concept store, event location and playroom for children ages 0-4 and is located in the heart of Derendorf. They have 3 different playrooms, their Bunny Town, Toddler Play Area, and Parent-Baby Cuddle Corner. You can reserve a play spot online.

Where? Rheinbabenstraße 5, 40476 Düsseldorf-Derendorf

HAPPY KIDS

HAPPY KIDS is an awesome place for children of all ages and for mama and papa who prefer sitting at a table while enjoying their coffee. It’s a great mix between a classic café and a kid’s paradise. The room is filled with comfortable places to sit, toys to play with, and a huge jungle gym for the kids. They also offer courses and host birthdays here too!

Where? Achenbachstraße 148, 40237 Düsseldorf

Chiquito Düsseldorf

Chiquito is Benrath’s popular Eltern-Kind Café for children ages 0-5. Their space is also available for birthdays, christenings, family parties, and more.

Where? Börchemstraße 35, 40597 Düsseldorf-Benrath

LeaLand Kids Café

One of the newest kids’ cafés in town is LeaLand Kids. What makes their space unique is that not only do they offer a café with tables and chairs along with different areas for kids of all ages to play, but they also offer in-house babysitting services and birthday parties.

Where? Berliner Allee 56, 40212 Düsseldorf

Bude Eins

Bude Eins is more than just a Kindercafé where you can sit down and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and some yummy snacks, it’s a kid’s play paradise for creativity and role-playing. Think of it as a mini-city for mini kids, a perfect little town where your kids will be able to put out burning buildings, mend broken teddy arms, grocery shop at the local market, and style each other’s hair. The space is divided into a play city, a small children’s play space, a baby play space, and a café so that regardless of your child’s age, they’ll always be busy.

Where? Kaiserstraße 34A, 40479 Düsseldorf-Pempelfort

Motte

Klein aber fein – this Kindercafé might be small but packs a punch. The space is primarily used for baby and kids courses including fitness classes, dancing classes, and language classes. However, the small front space is also the perfect haven to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and a few snacks, while your little one can explore the toys and games around the room. You’ll always have them in sight! If you’re looking for a quiet spot to meet another parent friend and wind down, this is the place to be.

Where? Karolinger Höfe, Merowingerstraße 34, 40223 Düsseldorf-Bilk

Kindercafé Wunderhaus

The Kindercafé Wunderhaus looks much like a classic café but is one of the best child-friendly cafés in Düsseldorf. Why? It has a huge indoor playground and playmat for the kids to enjoy while the parents catch up and drink their coffee in peace. They also host birthday parties of all sorts here!

Where? Kölner Landstraße 148, 40591 Düsseldorf-Wersten

Liebesvoll! Auermühle

While Liebesvoll! isn’t exactly a “kids’ café” with a space for kids to play indoors, when the weather is nice, they have a huge playground for the kids outside and tons of tables for sitting and enjoying a cup of warm coffee while the kids have some fun at the playground.

Where? Auermühle 1, 40882 Ratingen

IKEA

Sometimes the best answers are the ones we’ve already thought of (and then oddly forgot about). I’ve been in search of great places to bring my baby and completely forgot that IKEA is one of the most family-friendly spots in any city. They have a huge restaurant with kids’ meals, changing tables, high chairs, and even an indoor play place where you can drop your kids off while you do your shopping.

Wilma Wunder

Wilma Wunder is a relatively new restaurant and café that serves up delicious food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While they may not have a play gym, the accessibility at Wilma Wunder is heavenly. There are 3 levels that are all accessible via elevator and the huge change table in the washroom makes diaper changes so much easier. Not to mention their cakes and coffee are scrumptious!

Café Südpark

Similarly, Café Südpark (located in Düsseldorf’s Südpark) is located in the middle of the park and surrounded by nature so the kids can roam free while you sit out on the terrace and enjoy your coffee.

And it doesn’t stop there! There are also SO many other amazing kids cafés just outside of Düsseldorf worth checking out too! Here are just a few:

👋 Hey, I’m Jenna!

The voice behind Life in Düsseldorf

I’m a German Canadian who moved to Düsseldorf over a decade ago, and like many of you, I had a million questions when I arrived. From trying to figure out how health insurance works in Germany to wondering where the best bakery is (spoiler: it’s Bülle 🍞), I’ve been through it all.

So I created Life in Düsseldorf to help make your transition smoother — whether you’re moving to Germany, already living here, or just curious about life abroad. My mission? To make you feel a little less overwhelmed and a lot more at home.
