It’s no secret that when the weather is nice, the public parks in Düsseldorf are some of the best locations to be in the city, especially when you’d like to have a BBQ with your friends. You can kick back, relax, and enjoy a good sunset, people watch and, if you’re by the Rhine River you can watch the boats motoring by.
Don’t have a BBQ yet or need a new one? You’ll find some of the best deals online on websites like OTTO. Here, you’ll find BBQ’s at all price points (with great discounts), both well known brands and some great quality lesser known brands as well.
Is it legal to grill in public parks in Düsseldorf though?
Grilling is actually officially banned in public parks but is often tolerated as long as people are respecting the environment. What does that mean?
- Do not damage the grass or turf beneath your grill
- Dispose of your rubbish and your burned charcoal/wood!
- Leave the patch of grass you claimed for the day in better condition than when you arrived
- Check ahead of time to see if there is a grill ban due to hot temperatures and risk of fire
Are there any legal places for BBQing in Düsseldorf?
Since BBQing in public parks is actually banned, we will not be held liable for encouraging you to visit. Please grill at your own discretion. Alternatively, if you’d like to visit a park that is open and legal to grill at (during specified grill dates) you can check out any one of the three:
You will likely need to reserve a spot well in advance as there are often grills provided there for you.
The best public parks to BBQ
Keep in mind, as mentioned, grilling in public parks is forbidden, but often tolerated as long as we are respecting the environment and the people around us. If you would like to try to grill at a public park, some of the best public parks to BBQ in include:
- Rheinpark Golzheim
- Zoopark
- Florapark
- Südpark
- Volksgarten
- Along the Rheinwiese
- On the beach at Paradiesstrand
CAUTION: Please make sure your BBQ is sitting on top of a board or table to avoid ruining the grass (or worse, lighting it on fire).
A word of advice:
Be smart and there’s no reason why we all can’t enjoy some relaxation and BBQ celebrations together.
