How many of you are here on a short-term work project? This post may resonate well with everyone who has a hard time finding affordable furniture to fill an apartment short-term or anyone like me who just loves a good bargain.

Unlike some cities, Düsseldorf has some of the nicest, high-class second-hand furniture around.

However, if you’re still on the edge about buying second-hand items, you may also want to consider some more affordable furniture shops like POCO (cheap and awesome sales), Wayfair (our favorite online store), and IKEA (c’mon, it’s a classic). If you don’t mind spending a bit more money on new items, we also have a list of 10 of the Best Furniture Shops in Düsseldorf.

As a flea market fanatic, I have to tell you that it’s worth renting a van for a day and shopping around the flea markets on the weekend if you’re interested in filling that apartment quite quickly.

We wrote up a post about 7 of the amazing flea markets around Düsseldorf that you’ll have to check out as well.

However, there were a few people asking questions similar to this one:

second hand furniture in dusseldorf
  • Save

This led me to realize, that’s a very valid question! Here are 7 different ways you can find second-hand furniture in Dusseldorf.

Caritas Kaufhaus Wertvoll

Location: Harffstraße 40, 40591 Düsseldorf
Store Hours: Monday to Thursday from 8:30am – 4:00pm

The Caritas Kaufhaus Wertvoll is a social department store, where people who receive support for their living expenses can get furniture, decorations, textiles, and much more at special rates. But the department store also opens its doors to all other interested people with the help of its very welcoming and friendly staff. The assortment is constantly changing and includes both old and new goods.

In addition, the Kaufhaus Wertvoll has made it it’s business to recycle old goods and transform them into unique goods by upcycling. In the in-house carpentry workshop, for example, an old television is converted into a unique shelf and a T-shirt into a bag.

So here you will find everything your heart desires and more. But you should be quick because by now the word has gotten around that new treasures are being delivered.

Troc (permanently closed ?)

Location: Wilhelm-Kreis-Straße 2, 40595, Düsseldorf

At Troc, things are a little more inventory-managed. You can find things online or you can head to the store. At the moment, they have more than 1,300 items posted on their online shop for you to browse through. The shop itself is huge, so you can definitely make a one-stop shop if you need to.

Tip: You can also request an estimate on items from your own home if you’re heading on your way out of Dusseldorf.

Cash und Raus

Locations:

  • Herzogstraße 28, 40217, Düsseldorf
  • Scheurenstraße 59, 40215 Düsseldorf
  • Stockkampstraße 55, 40477 Düsseldorf
  • Kaiserswerther Str. 33, 40477 Düsseldorf

Store Hours: Monday to Friday from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Cash & Raus offers unemployed people jobs and training to reintegrate into the community. Similar to Caritas, Cash und Raus picks up furniture donations from people’s homes around the city, brings them back to their warehouse, and sells them at a discounted price.

Oxfam

Locations:

  • Friedrichstraße 25, 40217, Düsseldorf
  • Nordstraße 9, 40477, Düsseldorf

Store Hours: Monday to Friday from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

From time to time Oxfam will have small furniture items for around the home. While they’re not a big second-hand furniture store, they deserve to be mentioned too. I ended up picking up all my dishes and placemats from Oxfam at a super cheap price. So, if you’re looking for those final touches in your home, Oxfam is a great place to start.

eBay Kleinanzeigen

Location: www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de

If you haven’t heard of eBay Kleinanzeigen yet, today is your lucky day. eBay Kleinanzeigen is like the Kijiji.com of North America. It’s the little sister of eBay and a great place to sell used items for cheap. You’ll need to arrange for your own transportation and pickup, but if you don’t have the time to shop around on your own, taking a look online is one of the easiest ways to pick out all your furniture for your apartment.

eBay Kleinanzeigen offers just about everything. From cars and bikes, furniture, and clothing to finding your next rental apartment or buying your next house, they have it all.

Vinted

Location: www.vinted.de

Vinted is a flea market app for your phone. It’s an easy way to find things that you love, save them, message the seller, and pick it up. While Vinted is more popular for clothing, jewelry, and games, there are quite a few pieces of home decor as well (although furniture may be easier to find on eBay Kleinanzeigen or Facebook Marketplace).

Facebook

If you haven’t already tried out Facebook, I’d be surprised. This is one of the first places other expats and people around the city sell their furniture. They know there are newcomers to the city who will be looking for an apartment and second-hand furniture and they also know that we’re all quite active on social media.

Facebook Marketplace is the place to go, but you can also check out some of these local Facebook groups where you’ll find second-hand furniture too:

Have any more to add to the list? We’d love your input. Please leave a comment in the section below to let others know where else they can find second-hand furniture around the city.
