Six months ago, I moved from Singapore to Düsseldorf. Being a foodie from Asia, I have brought my cravings for authentic Chinese food with me. Food culture has become an important part of getting orientated in a new place, so finding some authentic cuisine you are familiar with is a key priority.

If you are also looking for authentic Chinese food in Düsseldorf, I hope my list below will help you get started!

Best Chinese Steamboat in Düsseldorf

Restaurant: Fu Chunyuan
Average Price Per Person: €18- €20

Winter is coming! What else could be better than enjoying a hot steamboat with family and friends on a cold and rainy day? Of course, there are plenty of things to do when it’s raining in Düsseldorf, but Chinese steamboat is on the top of my list!

Steamboat, also known as Hotpot, comes with a pot of spicy or non-spicy soup stock. You can relate it to a Chinese version of French fondue. If you are a steamboat lover or planning to try it for the first time, Fu Chunyuan is definitely a place to try.

For a fixed price, you can choose from a good variety of vegetables, meat, and seafood. Local beers, as well as soft drinks and desserts, are included in the buffet. If it’s your first time trying steamboat and you can’t find a Chinese friend to go with, no problem – the buffet setup makes it easy to choose any dishes you’d like and the staff are friendly and helpful. It is a simple yet yummy way to start the winter.

Best Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Düsseldorf

Restaurant: Chuan Wei Chuan China Restaurant
Average Price Per Person: €25

When talking about Chinese food people usually think about one type of cuisine. In fact, China has eight regional cuisines – Shandong, Sichuan, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Anhui.

Each cuisine has its unique characteristics and tastes. Among those, Sichuan cuisine is the most prevalent outside of China due to its spicy and bold flavors. Chuan Wei Chuan is a restaurant I found in Düsseldorf where one can get a taste of this cuisine. Aside from good food, the restaurant also has a nice environment with traditional Chinese furnishings for group or family dining.

One of my favorite dishes is called “Song Shu Yu” in Chinese, which means squirrelfish. But don’t worry – no squirrels were harmed in the making of the dish! It is a deep-fried fish in sweet and sour sauce with a shape similar to that of a squirrel. You can feel the crunchy texture of the fish skin and the tender fish meat covered in sweet and sour sauce!

Best Chinese Dim Sum in Düsselorf

Restaurant: Tao China Bistro Dim Sum
Average Price Per Person: €20

If you aren’t a fan of spicy food, then food from Guangdong is the best cuisine for you to try.

It is famous for its Dim Sum – dishes prepared in small portions and usually served in bamboo baskets or on small plates. I fell in love with Dim Sum when I first tried it in Hong Kong many years ago. Surprisingly, I found the same delights here in Düsseldorf.

If you are a Dim Sum lover or would like to give it a try, Tao China Bistro Dim Sum restaurant is the place to go. My must-order dishes are Cha Siu Bao (dumplings with roasted pork), Cheung Fan (rice noodle rolls), and Grill-Platte (roasted duck and pork).
